An additionally aquaponic experiment was conducted in laboratory scale by the research team of the School of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Thessaly of the Departments of Crop Production and Rural Environment and Ichthyology & Aquatic Environment participating in FoodOASIS, with the Scientific Coordinator Mr. Nikolaos Katsoulas (Associate Professor). The fish-plant combination was concerned European bass and lettuce.
The FoodOASIS project review meeting of the first year was held on 15th July 2019 to discuss and present the projects that were successfully achieved in this project phase. Further coordination and reorganization of the team was followed with a view to complete successfully the next year’s modules, as well as spreading aquaponics science to scientific groups and directly interested people in sustainable production.
The FoodOasis Research Project participated at the International Symposium on Advanced Technologies and Management for Innovative Greenhouses GreenSys in Angers, France, from June 16th to 20th 2019. The poster of the project titled ” Development and optimization of an aquaponic system to increase sustainability in food production FoodOASIS ” was presented by the Scientific coordinator, Mr. Nikolaos Katsoulas (Associate Professor). This symposium gives researchers and professionals the opportunity to present innovative research on greenhouse crops, contributing to sustainable food production and better management of the greenhouse environment for the benefit of both the producer and the consumer.
