The Laboratory of Agricultural Constructions & Environmental Control (LACEC) of the Department of Agriculture Crop Production and Rural Environment of the University of Thessaly (UTH) is active in the field of Agricultural Constructions with special emphasis in greenhouses. The research of LACEC is focused on the environmental friendly production by means of optimal greenhouse climate control that leads to reduction of inputs in energy, water, nutrients, fertilisers, pesticides and production footprint. LACEC is active in specific issues related to: sustainable farming practices, smart farming, rational use of water and fertilisers in crop production systems, good agricultural practices, ICT, sensors, in-door production systems (constructions, microclimate), rational inputs use (use of renewable energy, and water, soil, and land resources prevention), and environmental footprint assessment and optimization of agricultural production systems. Due to its geographical location (South-Europe) and the low level of technological adoption from the farmers, LACEC team has adjust many services and products to fit with these special groups.
The Department of Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment, School of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Thessaly (UTH) in Greece aims to educate the students and provide training and research in fisheries, aquaculture and in the sustainable exploitation and management of the aquatic ecosystem. A well-established aquaculture and aquaponics laboratory has a track record of outstanding research in aquaponics and organic aquaculture. The Departmental stuff members who will be responsible for carrying out the FoodOASUS proposed research are Professor E. Mente and Professor K. Kormas. Professor Kormas scientific interests focus on aquatic microbiology and aquatic animal-host microbe interactions. Professor Elena Mente has more than 20th years’ experience on research in sustainable aquaculture and aquatic animal nutrition
